Hello!

I'm Ruth, qualified florist and owner of Kiki and Zaza. The first part of my career was spent in theatre and entertainment. I worked in PR, Marketing & Event Management for 20 years at one of the country's busiest entertainment venues. I have also been involved in theatre and music for over 30 years, as a performer and producer/director/writer. My background means I am highly skilled at putting on a show, working to tight deadlines and creating the "wow!" factor.

Having spent so many years in theatre, I was lucky enough to be the recipient of beautiful flowers on many occasions, though never dreamt they would hold the key to a new career. It was while singing with a wedding band that I noticed the growing trend for Venue Dressing and felt it was something I would love to do. I had been making and selling handmade tiaras and bridal jewellery for several years and felt Venue Dressing was an area where I could put both my creative and organisational skills to good use.  My first step was to learn some flower arranging skills so I took a basic, recreational course which I absolutely adored! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks???

I was well and truly hooked on flowers so spent two years studying at the renowned International School of Floristry at Rodbaston in Staffordshire, passing with distinction . The courses taught not only practical skills and techniques, but included in-depth study of art and design and use of colour which has proved invaluable when creating new, original floral designs and dressing venues for clients.

Finally, I needed a name for the business. I live at Hector's House so Kiki and Zaza seemed an ideal, quirky choice, though if you're under the age of 50, you'll have no idea what I'm talking about! Hector's House was a children's programme in the late '60s and Kiki and Zaza were the two female characters, a frog and a cat if I remember correctly. You learn something every day!
